Hope Flowers School, Bethlehem
Hope Flowers is a Palestinian school in Bethlehem, founded in 1984 and dedicated to education for co-existence, peace, non-violence and democracy. It has been an educational innovator, providing mixed-gender classes, interfaith classes (Jewish, Christian and Muslim) and free education for children directly affected by the conflict. Please support this internationally renowned peace school and its new project Listen to My Voice. This is a psychological support program designed to help trauma recovery amongst the school's children and their families. The Hope Flowers School and Conference Centre intends to create a model of psychological support for use in other schools in the Holy Land and to become a centre of excellence for trauma relief for the peoples of the West Bank. The project leaders write, "We see the Psychological Support Program at Hope Flowers School to be a key component in peace education. It is a matter of great urgency to prevent our children from participating in violence. This is essential for future peace-making between Palestinians and Israelis". What happens to your moneyYour donation is made by credit card through PayPal to Jerusalem Peacemakers. We transfer money from UK to Israel when sufficient funds have accumulated to minimise bank transfer and currency conversion costs, which are deducted from the total sum (about 5% for a sum over £100). Transfers are mostly made according to need: what the money will be spent on is discussed at every stage. Funds donated here go to no other destination than Ibrahim's household. Jerusalem Peacemakers deducts no charge.
Support communitiesIf you'd like to form a support community to contribute to Ibrahim's and his household's activities, click here. A support community is a group of friends or colleagues who band together to contribute a monthly sum. Ten people contributing £10 per month makes £1,200 per year!
AccountsIn 2005, we shall be making accounts available to donors on request, to give a sense of how donations are being used. Generalised accounts will be posted on this site too. Naturally, there will be a time-delay of a few months between donation and result. To protect donors and recipients and maintain confidentiality, some specific information will not be given in these accounts or will be disguised. If, as a donor, you wish to remain anonymous, please e-mail us at the time you make your donation, and your identity will be confidentially known only to one or two people in the Jerusalem Peacemakers team in UK.
